What to do when the windows fog up? Moisture can wreak havoc – not only can it damage seals, but it can encourage fungus and mold growth and reduce visibility. What are the methods of steaming windows?

Why do windows steam up?

Fogging of the windows is not good, but the appearance of this problem is a very interesting phenomenon, especially since there are at least several reasons. First of all, this is, of course, high humidity. When there is a lot of water vapor in the air, it can naturally settle somewhere. Therefore, when cooking, bathing or breathing, the humidity of the air will increase, and the water floating in it will condense on the windows in the form of characteristic steam.

The second cause of glass fogging may be the difference in temperature between one side of the glass and the other. In this case, water molecules begin to condense on the warmer side, causing the windows to mist up.

The third reason is related to the first two. Fogged windows are most often a problem in rooms with poor air circulation. If the room is closed and poorly ventilated, excess moisture in the air has nowhere to escape and settles on the glass in the form of irritating vapors.

Interestingly, the reason may also be completely different. Well, it was a design flaw in the building. Immediately after installation, such walls should be thoroughly dried before proceeding with further work. Otherwise, they release moisture later, adversely affecting the moisture content of the air.

What are the effects of fogging windows?

So, unfortunately, fogged windows can be a sign of a bigger problem. The result can be a poorly ventilated room with insufficient air circulation. This can have dire consequences for our health. The aesthetic aspect is also important. Fogged windows definitely don’t look good. They also limit visibility and darken the room. Moisture accumulating on the edges of the glass can cause degradation of the seal, which can simply destroy the window. The worst part, however, is that moisture accumulating on the windows promotes the growth of mold and fungus in the corners of the windows – often those that cannot be cleaned. However, these microorganisms can have a very adverse effect on our health.

What about a fogged window?

Due to the reasons why we may have problems with fogged windows, the basic solution seems obvious. First, make sure the room is well ventilated. If air circulation is to be ensured by a general system whose task is to take care of it, then of course it cannot work effectively. Therefore, it is necessary to clean the ventilation grille and check the operation of the device. Another easy way to deal with fogged windows is to install such a device if you don’t already have one. If this is a difficult task, replacing the windows with special drain holes can also help. If the problem is fogging of the kitchen windows, it is worth installing a kitchen hood that will drain the moisture generated during cooking. If we have a hood but the windows still steam up,

Unfortunately, apart from water vapor, dust and fat generated during cooking in the kitchen can also accumulate in it, which reduces its permeability, and thus reduces the effectiveness of the hood. The operating power of the cooker hood is also very important. If the hood is clean and the windows still steam up, it may mean that the hood power is too low for our needs. Then you need to replace the device with a more powerful one. If the evaporation of rooms occurs sporadically and only in certain circumstances, a good solution is simply to ventilate them. To prevent steam from escaping from the windows, it is enough to open them when cooking or taking a shower. Thanks to this, warm air rich in water vapor escapes outside the building, regulating the level of humidity inside. The rooms were different, the humidity was high, so the windows fogged up, a common problem that just won’t go away. Then it may simply mean that the air humidity was too high. Although we associate this dry air with respiratory ailments, too much humidity is also harmful to health. All fungi and mold spores that enter our body along with the air we breathe and the food we eat feel good in such humid air. There are several ways to lower the humidity in a room. Ventilation is essential, but there are special devices that help us control the humidity of the air. A very popular solution is the so-called hygroscopic agents. Currently, they are not only used to collect moisture floating in the room, but also constitute a beautiful, elegant decoration. Many of them look like little masterpieces. An additional bonus is that you can buy a dehumidifier, which will additionally release a pleasant, refreshing fragrance.v
